Meet the November 2017 Students of the Month
On-Campus Student: Steven Roberts
Congratulations, Steven!
Virtual Student: Suzanne Sergis
Suzanne is an Organizational Leadership major and Psychology minor from Stockton, CA. This is her junior year at Fort Hays State University. In her community, she is a mentor for nontraditional college students and a parent outreach coordinator at her children’s school. Suzanne loves learning about new ideas, perspectives, and ways of growing self-awareness. Her family likes to go camping and fishing. Right now her family is involved in a major construction project. They have purchased nearly five acres and are building a home based on plans Suzanne created. She chose Leadership Programs because it integrates her current experience with an understanding of the knowledge and skills that are necessary to provide effective leadership. She said she is switching careers and a degree with a leadership focus will provide a firm foundation in whichever field she decides to pursue her next career. Her favorite class so far has been LDRS 300, Introduction to Leadership Concepts with Jeni McRay. She liked gaining a firm understanding of the evolution of the field of leadership and exploring the ways it is growing were valuable. The class morphed what Suzanne thought about Leadership into a concrete understanding that guides her thinking in coursework and how she acts with leadership in everyday life.
International Student: He Tianhao (Anthony)
Congratulations, Anthony!
International Student: Gao Hong (Maxwell)
Maxwell is a senior Organizational Leadership major from Tai Yuan, Shan Xi Province China. On campus, he is involved with the Reading Association and enjoys the International Food Festival. He also enjoys reading, traveling, and photography. He likes to photograph the same subject from different angles. Maxwell says this helps improve his creative thinking skills. Maxwell likes learning about leadership because leadership helps him build relationships, solve conflicts, and maintain team dynamics. This knowledge is useful to him because it can reduce mistakes in his work. So far, his favorite class has been Fieldwork in Leadership Studies, LDRS 310, because he could combine the theoretical knowledge with community activities and practice leadership then reflect on what he had done.
